ASEAN Leaders' Statement on Climate Change to COP-17 to the UNFCCC and CMP-7 to the Kyoto Protocol (19th ASEAN Summit, 2011)



The Statement urges all Parties to the UNFCCC to work together to secure agreements under the two-track process established under the Bali Roadmap and the Bali Action Plan of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action (AWG-LCA) and the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP), to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions so as to hold the increase in global average temperature below 2?C above pre-industrial levels

Selected Commitments:
The Statement declares that (among others) Ministers shall: Commit to actively contributing towards a successful outcome of the COP 17 and CMP 7; Agree to enhance cooperation and collaboration among ASEAN Member States to support the implementation of this Statement and; Task the relevant ASEAN ministerial and sectoral bodies dealing with climate change to carry on the cooperation in implementing the objective of the Statement.
