ASEAN Declaration on Heritage Parks (2003)



The document declared national protected areas listed in Appendix I as ASEAN Heritage Parks. For the Philippines heritage parks declared in 1984 are: a) Mt. Apo National Park, b) Iglit-Baco National Park

Selected Commitments:
The Governments of the Member States agree that common cooperation is necessary to conserve and manage ASEAN Heritage Parks (AHP) for the development and implementation of regional conservation and management action plans as well as regional mechanisms complementary to and supportive of national efforts to implement conservation measures. At the 25th Meeting of the AWGNCB, the Meeting requested ACB to develop a more stringent AHP selection process including recommendations to develop a scoring matrix and the possiblity of a third-party evaluation.
Status / Updates:
New heritage parks declared: Mt. Malindang Range Natural Park (2011), Mt. Kitanglad Range Natural Park (2009), Mt. Makiling Nature Reserve (2013), Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary (2014), Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park (2014). At the 13th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment on 28 October 2015, Ha Noi, Viet Nam the Ministers endorsed the nomination of Mt. Timpoong Hibok-Hibok National Park in Philippines as the 36th ASEAN Heritage Park. (Attended by ______)
