The ASEAN Working Group on Environmental Education oversees and coordinates the implementation of the ASEAN Environmental Education Action Plan (AEEAP) 2014-2018. The Working Group is also guided by the ASCC Blueprint 2009-2015 which aims to "establish a clean and green ASEAN, rich in cultural traditions where the values and practices of the people are in accordance with the rhythm and harmony of nature, with citizens who are environmentally literate, imbued with the environmental ethic, and willing and capable to ensure the sustainable development of the region through environmental education and public participation efforts."

- GOALS in four target areas:
TARGET AREA 1: FORMAL SECTOR
Environmental education (EE) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is integrated at all levels of the formal sector (relative to national capacity and directives) in each AMS.
TARGET AREA 2: NON-FORMAL SECTOR
Non-formal sector in AMS enhanced through the integration of socio-cultural, economic and ecological knowledge through EE/ESD to address local, regional and international environmental issues and challenges.
TARGET AREA 3: INSTITUTIONAL AND HUMAN RESOURCES CAPACITY BUILDING
Strengthened institutional capacity in EE & ESD and trained human resource pool on EE and ESD in AMS.
TARGET AREA 4: NETWORKING, COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION
Improved exchange of environmental information, skills and resources in the region and increased support and commitment for EE and ESD and capacity building through formal and non formal networks at local/national, regional and international levels.
Activities of the working group include the ASEAN Eco-schools Award Programme, ASEAN Plus Three Youth Environment Forum, ASEAN Plus Three Leadership Programme on Sustainable Production and Consumption, ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable Development Film Festival, and ASEAN Environment Year (AEY) celebration held once every three years. The last AEY was held in 2015. - Status / Updates:
- At the 7th Meeting of the AWGEE, the Meeting agreed to regularly submit relevant data and information to the ASEAN Environmental Education Inventory Database (AEEID) to populate the database. New database entries should be verified by the National Focal Point (NFP).
