3rd MMRF Meeting taken on October 29, 2015 (Source: Forest Policy Section, FMB)
The MMRF is a high-level policy dialogue among Asia-Pacific economies that encourages greater cooperation in addressing regional challenges and opportunities including forest cover increase, illegal logging and climate change mitigation. It seeks to exchange experiences on promoting good governance and transparency in the trade of legal timber, timber products and front services while enhancing & sustaining local forest industries.
It is also intended to assess existing efforts and explore further opportunities to enhance work on meeting the aspirational forest cover goal. It aims to scale-up commitments to promote sustainable forest management and rehabilitation and address forest-related issues to contribute to the green growth agenda of APEC.
The first meeting of APEC Ministers Responsible for Forestry was held in Beijing, China in 2011. It was held to bring together ministers and senior officials from APEC economies to focus solely on forests and forestry in the region.
The second meeting of APEC Ministers Responsible for Forestry meeting was held in Cusco, Peru, 2013. APEC Ministers Responsible for Forestry released the Cusco Statement that contains 17 aspirations for APEC member economies to address the challenges related to green growth and sustainable development.
