United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change/ Kyoto Protocol

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an international intergovernmental treaty that focus on what countries could do to limit average global temperature increases and the resulting climate change.  It recognizes that the climate system is a shared resource whose stability can be affected by industrial and other emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

The Philippines became a party to the UNFCCC in May 2000.  Currently, there are 196 Parties (195 States and 1 regional economic integration organization) to the UNFCCC.  As a party, the Philippines is obliged to implement and enforce the provisions of the convention by enacting related national policies and administrative order and the designation of national focal point agencies.   H.E. Lucille Domingo and DFA Jesus R.S. Domingo are the country’s Focal Point to the Convention.

As of October 25, 2015, the country has successfully submitted its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC), in view of the global initiative to address and resolve climate change issues, and steer towards a cleaner, more sustainable, more resilient, and low carbon pathway of development.
