The Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP), previously called "The Committee for Co-ordination of Joint Prospecting for Mineral Resources in Asian Offshore Areas" when it was first formed in 1966, is an intergovernmental organization that aims to facilitate and coordinate the implementation of applied geoscience programmes in East and Southeast Asia. It promotes capacity building, technology transfer, exchange of information and institutional linkages for sustainable resource development, management of geo-information, geo-hazard mitigation and protection of the environment.
The Philippines is a founding member of CCOP, which was adopted as an intergovernmental organization in an MOU in 1987. Aside from the original signatories—Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam—it now has fourteen members with the addition of Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Timor-Leste. It is supported by fourteen cooperating countries, namely: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russian Federation, Sweden, United Kingdom and the United States of America.

- In its Strategic Plan, the CCOP is focused on:
1. Enhancing coordination of geoscience programs in national geoscientific institutions of CCOP Member Countries
2. Continuing human resource development and institutional capacity building in accordance with national priorities for greater regional self-sufficiency in providing the geoscience inputs to sustainable economic development and sound environmental management
3. Increased sharing of technical information between the Member Countries, Cooperating Countries and Cooperating Organizations of CCOP in order to share such information for their mutual benefit, to learn from each other's experience and to identify further opportunities for cooperation in capacity building.
The MGB is seeking approval from the Philippine government to host CCOP's 2017 Annual Session and 69th Steering Committee Meeting. - Status Updates:
- The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) is spearheading the production of a CCOP coffe table book on the “Best practices on mine rehabilitation and decommissioning” which is targeted for production by October 2016. The kick-off meeting was held in Manila on 22-25 June 2015. The book will showcase successful mine rehabilitation stories from the CCOP member countries and aims to promote responsible mining.
